Pilot Program: Micro-Loans

When we returned to IDP camp Tapis Vert we found many families working toward sustainability. One couple was creating frames out of re-used materials, finishing them in woven grass and fitting the frames with mirror glass from broken buildings. Another gentleman who helps us with the sanitation program has a foot-powered knife sharpening wheel that he fashioned out of bicycle parts. Celibon Chal is a local baker who had crafted a wood-burning oven right in the tent city, but was unable to bake without ingredients. In fact; many folks were just dollars short of getting the family business back on its feet. We initiated a pilot program for a series of small loans for local families- Celibon Chal was our first recipient.
